WROMT SAFEGUARDING POLICY FOR THE YOUNG & VULNERABLE
ACTION IN BREACH OF THIS POLICY WILL BE TREATED SERIOUSLY AND COULD RESULT IN SUSPENSION OF THE MEMBERSHIP OF ANY INDIVIDUAL FOUND IN BREACH OF THIS POLICY.
The West Riding Omnibus Museum Trust is committed to:
•Respecting the wishes, rights and feelings of the young and vulnerable people that wish to join in activities at the Museum or at events that members of the Trust attend.
•Taking the interests and well-being of young and vulnerable people into account, in all our considerations and activities.
•Taking all reasonable practical steps to protect young and vulnerable people from neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
•Promoting the welfare of young and vulnerable people and their protection within a position of trust.
All adult Members are responsible for putting this policy into action and practice at all times. An adult Member has responsibility to ensure young and vulnerable people are protected from harm. It is the responsibility of each adult member to ensure that:
•Their behaviour is appropriate at all times.
•They recognise at all times the position of trust in which they have been placed.
•They observe the rules of this policy at all times.
•They ensure any relationships they have with young people under their care are always appropriate.
The attached code of conduct is published on our Website and is given to all Members of the Trust when they join and attached to the annual subscription renewal form.
It offers guidance and advice on how young and vulnerable people should be treated and it is expected that all members comply with it.
Code of Conduct
This policy applies to all situations where an adult member interacts with a young or vulnerable person.
You must ensure that you:
•Apply this code of conduct at all times.
•Set the right example for others to follow.
•Treat all young and vulnerable people with respect and dignity.
•Treat all young and vulnerable people equally.
•Plan activities with young people where more than one adult Members is present at all times unless specific written permission has been given by the Parent or Guardian of the young person.
•Avoid unacceptable situations within the relationship of trust such as engaging in a sexual relationship with a young or vulnerable person under or over the age of consent.
•Avoid being drawn into attention seeking behaviour.
•Engage in email, telephone or text communication without specific written permission being given by the Parent or Guardian of a young person.
•Advise a Trustee or another Member where due to an immediate practical requirement this policy has to be breached.
•Advise other Members if you think they are in breach of this code.
You must ensure that you do not:
•Form a relationship with a young or vulnerable person that is an abuse of trust.
•Take part in inappropriate behaviour or contact, whether physical, verbal or sexual.
•Make suggestive remarks or threats even if they are meant in fun
•Use offensive or inappropriate language when a young or vulnerable person may hear you.
Practical Requirements for Young and vulnerable Persons
When a young person (under the age of 16 years) or vulnerable person wishes to visit the Museum, the Board of Trustees would expect that a Parent or Guardian accompany the young or vulnerable person.
It is expected that the Parent or Guardian will accompany the individual to all Trust activities and visits to the Meetings or the Museum building. However as this may not always be practical, it would be a requirement that the Parent or Guardian nominate in writing the supervisor of the person when the Parent or Guardian is unable to attend.
The Parent or Guardian will also be requested to provide written permission to enable email, text or telephone conversations to take place with the nominated supervisor.
Where the behaviour of a young person, vulnerable adult or adult member is considered to be inappropriate, the Board of Trustees reserves to right to suspend the membership of the individual or prevent further access to the Museum building or its associated activities.
Where the behaviour of any Member is considered to be inappropriate the Parent, Guardian or any member must raise this immediately with any Trustee for investigation.
