Fleet Number:  8534

Registration:  RWU 534R

Chassis:  Leyland Leopard PSU4D/4R

Body:  Plaxton Derwent  DP43F

New:  November 1976

8534 was the penultimate member of 35 Leyland Leopards delivered in 1975/76 to the Calderdale and Kirklees districts of the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive.

These vehicles were fitted with Plaxton derwent 43-seat bodies to a dual-purpose specification, which made them ideal for the interurban bus services then operated by the PTE between West Yorkshire and Lancashire / Greater Manchester, as well as more local work and private hire.

8534 was allocated to the Todmorden garage, where she spent all her working life.  Painted in a "heritage" livery, to comemorate 90 years of bus operation in Todmorden, as well as gaining power steering, ensured she outlived her sisters, becoming, in effect, the garage "pet".

Finally withdrawn in 1999, she entered preservation, passing to her present owner in 2009.  Since then, 8534 has had a complete exterior re-panel, her rear boot re-instated, her seats re-upholstered and a repaint into her original livery of Verona Green and Buttermilk.
